"Reichert is a troubadour of sorts - he likes to tell stories in his songs"... Moose Jaw Times Herald 2008
''This self-titled album (Pernell Reichert and the Hard Drinkers), Reichert’s third commercially available release, goes some way to capturing the essence of their raucous live performances..."Movin’ On” is a full-blown blues rock number complete with distorted vocals and squealing guitar..." Travelling troubadour shares stories
By Dean Gordon-Smith Vernon Morning Star - August 2004
Pernell Reichert: And Sometimes...
The troubadour life and hobo existence have given rise to Vancouver singer/songwriter/guitar picker Pernell Reichert's second independent release, And Sometimes...
Reichert's road life includes treeplanting and other related pursuits mixed in with the odd gig and live appearance. It's that rootsy B.C. nomadic existence that reflects itself in the nine acoustic songs contained herein. Travelogues detail dilapidated environments, good times, lost love and musical inspirations. The deft finger picking of Reichert informs all this material and provides a rich, if instrumentally sparse, base for his honest and candid musings. The lovely intro song is homage to late, troubled acoustic visionaries Nick Drake and John Fahey. A humorous weirdness of urban existence is detailed in Reichert's folky narrative, Downtown. Much of the material is autobiographical and flowing, taking inspiration in detailing impressions and experiences and encapsulating them with sparkling finger style acoustic guitar. A wistful tinge of backwoods reflection is explored with crying mouth harp in If I Change it All. Furthering this yearning spirit in Reichert's music is She Came from the West Coast, which adds a personal snapshot to this freewheeling and rustic CD.
